The SSL Validation Process
Identity assurance is accomplished through the validation process. Network Solutions offers two different validation processes.
- Organizationally Validated (OV) Certificates
OV Certificates are issued only after verifying the legitimacy of the applicant's business. This is done by using currently established and accepted vetting processes, like manually checking credentials such as Dunn & Bradstreet number, articles of incorporation, WHOIS, passport, driver's license, etc.
- Extended Validation (EV) Certificates
EV Certificates provide a higher level of validation and are available to all business and government entities, but are not available to individuals. The EV process is more rigorous and detailed than for any other Certificate and will require additional steps, which may include obtaining signatures from several people within the applying company, legal verification of the business's existence, etc.
In addition to displaying the familiar closed padlock, the address bar of next-generation Web browsers (such as Internet Explorer® 7)
will turn green in color for sites protected with an EV Certificate.
EV Certificate Requirements
Are Extended Validation Certificates Right For Me?
If you're looking for a Certificate that offers the highest levels of validation along with the visual assurance of the green browser bar, then an EV SSL may be right for you - if you qualify to purchase one.
You qualify for an EV SSL Certificate if:
You are a government entity
Your business is a legal corporation
Your business is a general partnership
You are a sole proprietor
Your organization is an unincorporated association
The requirements for issuing an Extended Validation Certificate were developed by the Certification Authority/Browser Forum, a group of leading Web browser vendors and SSL Certification Authorities (CAs), including Network Solutions®. Please visit their Web site for complete details.
All CAs must adhere to these guidelines when determining whether an applicant is eligible for an EV Certificate or has met the necessary validation criteria.
An EV Certificate can be issued to entities that meet the following requirements:
